Headlight Restoration

See further.
Look newer.

UV exposure clouds headlight lenses slowly enough that most people don't notice until they're driving an unlit road and realise they can't see as far as they used to.

Headlight restoration before and after

Sanded back, refined, sealed.

The plastic lens on modern headlights isn't glass โ€” it's polycarbonate, and polycarbonate oxidises under UV exposure over time. That's the yellow, cloudy look, and it isn't cosmetic: it genuinely cuts down how much light gets through, which matters most exactly when you need it most, on a dark road.

We sand back the oxidised layer in stages, refine it to a clear finish, then seal it with a UV-resistant coating so it doesn't just cloud over again in a year. Light output goes back to something close to what it was when the car was new.

A new pair of headlight units on most modern cars is expensive โ€” often more than the rest of the car's cosmetic condition would justify. Restoration is a fraction of that cost, and on a car that's otherwise in good shape, cloudy lenses are usually the single thing making it look older than it is.

Flat rate, per pair.

Doesn't change by vehicle size โ€” it changes by how oxidised the lenses are, which is a smaller variable than most of our other services.

Wet-sand to seal.

1. Masking. The surrounding paint and trim is taped off to protect it from the sanding process.

2. Multi-stage wet sanding. Progressively finer grits remove the oxidised outer layer without damaging the lens underneath โ€” this is a controlled, methodical process, not a quick buff.

3. Polishing. The lens is machine-polished back to full clarity once the sanding stages are done.

4. UV sealant cure. A hard, UV-resistant clear coat is applied and cured, which is what actually stops it clouding over again โ€” skip this step and the haze comes back within months.
